“In 2021, I started a D&D PvP tradition called The Summer Brawl, a yearly tournament built to test optimized characters as they smashed into each other for eternal bragging rights.
The format evolved every year depending on how chaotic my schedule got. In seasons 2 and 3, I ran 16-player tournaments, then had to scale it back down to five players in 2025 because life got so busy.
I won’t go into tournament formats or custom rules in detail here, because you already know the real magic of the Summer Brawl came from the custom arenas. Every year brought new maps with custom rules: teleport nodes, moving tiles, weird hazards, anything that forced even the most optimized builds to adapt.
The layout is perfectly tuned for a hex grid in Roll20. (Hexagons are the bestagons, as you know!)
