  • Wonderdraft Town & City Assets Pt.2

I’ve really been in an asset making mood this last week! Right after the Bandit Camp Assets I jumped into this one, since I just didn’t think one pack of city assets was enough.

This one is a little different though. First of all, it will soon be available for customization in the Token Editor. Second, all of these pre-colored assets have a DPI setting, meaning they will all import into image editors already scaled. An overdue feature, I know! Even after all these years I’m still learning my way around Photoshop.

Marric Veldt
Having recently made Captain of the Guard, Veldt strives to drive out the corruption where he believes his predecessor failed. Younger, idealistic, but determined, Marric has risen through the ranks with a steadfast focus on changing his city for the better. He now holds the power he requires to enact true change but is faced with the prospect of compromising his own morals for the sake of the city. The previous Captain spoke of the value in turning a blind eye, something Marric believed he could avoid. Now that he’s responsible for the peoples’ wellbeing, he’s not so sure.

Egon Kernsson
A gruff and snide old warrior, his stature is more reminiscent of a bear than a man. Egon was the previous Guard-Captain, now retired to luxurious comfort. His time as Captain was rife with corruption and underhanded dealing, which Kernsson took a cut of in exchange for looking the other way. For this, he still holds connections. He will proudly educate the strategy of working alongside the criminal element, particularly to his successor. But the ‘boy’ chose his morals over the wisdom of experience so Egon sits back, relaxes, and waits for the inevitable fallout.

Ed
Salesman, fence, and black market dealer. The Drow known only as ‘Ed’ is the most brazen face of the city’s underground elements, putting on a thinly-veiled front of a general store manager. In truth, he will trade in weapons, antiquities, and anything short of slaves. He has a heart, after all. The charismatic but savvy fence acts as an entry point for those seeking a less reputable market. His network of traders and acquirers is vast, spreading throughout and beyond the city.

Granny Arashi
In decades past, Arashi was the leader of a traveling caravan. Her troupe would take in those who found themselves alienated or discarded, providing refuge and companionship. Arashi held no reputation, but those who knew her could never speak highly enough. Growing older and unfit for a nomadic life, Arashi found herself becoming the owner of an inn towards the city’s center. Her welcoming nature now extends to the townsfolk, granting her respect, admiration, and most notably, trust. The kindness of her smile hides unrivaled knowledge of the town, its people, and their secrets.

Harvey Bowles
Bowles is more commonly known by the various colorful nicknames that the townsfolk have assigned him. The upright, condescending, and snobbish man acts as a liaison to the ruling lord. Said lord lives in an estate outside of the city and the reach of those of lower position. Instead, there is Harvey. With the power of his employer behind him, Bowles freely orders townspeople to fulfill his demands. He enjoys accommodation, food, and all manner of conveniences at the expense of the populace. In return, he receives a cold welcome, undying hatred, and a level of tampering with said food that would sicken even the hardiest of stomachs.

There are 128 assets in the pre-colored ZIP, which I hope will satisfy you until they are imported into the Token Editor next month and the possibilities really open up. If you want even more varieties, I recommend layering the buildings and thereby creating new, larger ones. You might even dabble with hue shifts and colorization filters to mix up the roof colors.

As for the base on which to place these, I recommend the textures inside the Grass & Road Assets. For coastal towns, be sure to also download the River & Water Assets.

I really can’t wait to see the settlements you create! Please be sure to share them in the Community Posts section. 🙂

I’ve also put together a little demonstration map using these assets. I call it “Highway Town” for the search engine optimization, but I’m sure you can do better. Enjoy!

  1. I really love your style of art, has a nice untidy feel to it. I do have one question, how do you install the tokens into Wonderdraft? They arn’t setup as symbols are they? I might be being a bit dumb but I havn’t really jumped into Wonderdraft so don’t know all the ins and outs.

Thanks again for the great stuff
