A bend in the road hides a nefariously-placed felled tree.

This is a 23×16 map by Connor Johnston. Its features include a narrow dirt road blocked by a felled tree and surrounded by trees and undergrowth – hidden within, a cluster of tents and a campfire.

These highwaymen are clever! Hiding in dense woods, they have set their trap in a spot hidden by a bend in the road – a felled tree sturdy enough to stop horse and cart, with no space to turn around quickly.

They have seen some success already too; in their camp nearby can be found a large crate of ill-gotten goods, and supplies enough to continue their scheme until the winter…

A bandit ambush in the woods is a classic way to break up a travel montage. Use it to challenge low-level adventurers, or to make heroes of high-level ones! You might even hide a clue to further the plot in their treasure stash, or have some evidence pointing off to a larger camp or extended adventure.
