Apply to be a Map Artist

Would you like to join our small team as a contracted map artist?

We are looking for people who enjoy map-making, have an aptitude for Photoshop or CSP, and can produce high-quality maps that fit well with our established style. We also value the ability to respect deadlines, to work independently, and to grow and adapt artistically with feedback.

Your contract will be to produce map packs at a flexible pace based upon the time you can afford to commit. A map pack is a battle map with several variants (such as snowy, autumn, or ablaze) and and a small collection of extracted assets. See our Map Gallery for examples of our published map packs – I will provide detailed specifications further along in the application process.

Some of our artists have been with us for five years already (since we first began recruiting) and we’d love for you to stick around at least that long too! I believe that, at 2-Minute Tabletop, you can earn a generous income while building your portfolio, all while enjoying the vibrant TTRPG community.

Your Application

Please send us a message using our contact form (click here).

  1. Mention “Map Artist Application” in the Subject
  2. Type your Introduction into the Message field and include a link to your Portfolio if it’s hosted online (otherwise see step 4)
  3. Hit send
  4. (Situational) If you’d like to send your portfolio images directly, please look for our automatic reply from us with the subject “Thank you for your message!” and send your images as a reply to that email

Introduction

Who are you? Please share your name or alias and where in the world you’re situated, and let me know if you have any questions of your own. Finally, tell me about your experience with tabletop role-playing, Photoshop or CSP, and 2-Minute Tabletop!

Portfolio

We want to see your artistic skills, and especially your map-making skills. These images can be sent directly via Discord DM or as a link to an online portfolio or image hosting site.

You should include at least three (3) maps of more than one setting (forest, desert, etc.) and made primarily with our 2MT map assets or custom-made. You are also welcome to include other visual art in order to demonstrate your general artistic skills.

In addition to general skill, I will be specifically gauging the overall design and composition of your maps, your application of assets, the quality of any custom elements you have made, and your post-processing skills (light, shade, and atmosphere). Hope that helps!

What’s Next?

I will endeavor to get back to you within a week, depending on life stuff (I’m a new parent!) and how close we are to end-of-month crunch time.

If we choose to move forward, we’ll start with a paid provisional commission. After one or more of those we can decide whether or not to commence what I call “perpetual commissions” – one commission after the next at a pace we agree on together.

Our cycle is built to be flexible; if you are already working, studying, or a new parent then you’ll fit right in. At the same time, if you’re unemployed with time enough for ten maps per day, we can totally figure out something.

Even if your application is rejected this time, I encourage you to try again once you are a little further along in your artistic journey!

I look forward to your message, and hope we can work together. 🙂
